The Diploma in Civil and Rural Engineering was started in VBRI in the year 1956 and the first batch of Civil Engineering passed out in the year 1959 with flying colors.

Continuing on the progress path in the year 1967, Principal, Civil Engineering Department, Late Sh.C.S.L. Agarwal made efforts along with Sh. BL.Mantri and Sh. S.L.Godawat to form an Old Student Association to strengthen the bond between passed out students and the institution and to have a healthy and fruitful get-together.

Sh. B.L. Mantri completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering in the second batch and there after nurtured and nourished the institution for 24 years by sharing his knowledge with the students. The association is achieving its objectives successfully since last 41 years.

Following activities are held under old student association:

1. Best Boy Competition:
   Best boy is selected by the department in-charges after severe brainstorming. He should be an all rounder i.e. rank holder in academics and should be an active participant in extra curricular activities, should be well disciplined and should hold an optimistic attitude towards the institution.
2. Merit Awards:
   Top three rankers in academics in all the branches are awarded with certificates. Books are also distributed to them in the fond memory of our first Principal Sir Late Sh. C.S.L. Agarwal, old student Late Sushree Priti Goyal and Late Mrs. Vandana Sharma w/o of our old student Sh.Mahendra Sharma.
3. Model And Technical Chart Competition:
   The technical charts and models prepared by the students are displayed in the exhibition. The best model and technical chart is selected by a team of experts and is awarded.

1. Sneh Milan:
   Initially it was celebrated in the scenarios atmosphere of Gulab Bagh on auspicious day of Dulhendi, so that the old students who are working outside Udaipur can meet under one roof and can share their experiences with their colleagues, this programmes was a grand success & is still continuing, only the venue has been changed to "The Institution of Engineers-Campus".
2. Foundation Day:
   It is celebrated on the second Saturday of May every year in the institution premises. On this day our Ex-Students who have completed 25 years of their diploma are honored with the memento. The secretary of Old Boys Association presents the Annual Report of the activities performed during the year and the physical and financial statement.
   
   The programme is followed with dinner. The complete expenses of dinner etc. are borne by our old students.
3. Engineers Day and Felicitation Programme
   On the demand of old students, who are unable to attend the Foundation Day celebration, it was decided to have one more programme under the Old Student Association, so on the next day of the birthday of Dr. Mokshagundam Sir Visvesharaya i.e. on 16th of September every year , the Engineers Day and the felicitation programme is conducted in the institution premises, in which the old students who have achieved their targets crossing many milestones in the private and public sector are honored before old and present teachers, the programme is followed with dinner.

There are no charges for the membership of Old Student Association and all third year students along with the passed out students from institution automatically become member of the association although the association is not registered but have an account in the Union Bank of India.
